Douarnenez Apartments & Villas (Brittany)

Douarnenez is located about 23 km north west of Quimper in western Brittany and is known as the 'Land of the Island' in Breton due to its long history with a fishing port established here in the Gallo Roman times. The town has a long history of tradition and folklore and the legendary Breton city of Ys is believed to lie beneath Douarnenez Bay. It is a great location to base yourself for a holiday in this part of nortehrn France and rent a Brittany villa or apartment.

Douarnenez was a busy fishing port at one time, especially for sardines, but in the early 1980s the fishing business declined due to competition form elsewhere. Douarnenez has three distict ports Rosmeur which is the current fishing port, Port Rhu and the modern marina Treboul. The town is most well known for its quaint cobbled streets, coloured houses, fabulous beaches and the local speciality cake, Kouign Amann Scordia, which was invented in 1860 and made from bread dough covered with a butter sugar mixture. Douarnenez has a market every weekday morning in the Halles de Douarnenez Center.
