Pont Aven Apartments & Villas (Brittany)
Pont Aven is approximately halfway between Quimper and Lorient on the south west Brittany coast. It is a French village situated by the banks of the Aven river and before the last century its tidal harbour resulted in a busy port. However, the town of Pont Aven is most well known due to its attraction of artists such as Paul Gauguin in the late 1880s and early 1890s. Arguably the first artist to paint in Pont Aven was the Dutchman Herman van den Anker (1832-83). His paintings in the 1860s faithfully show the costumes and customs of Breton peasants. Later, in 1864, the American artist Robert Wylie settled in the village. So this town with a special history is a good location to hire a Brittany villa or apartment for your vacation in north west France.
Pont-Aven has a School of Contemporary Art (PASCA) which has an international fine arts program and the town still attracts artists and art lovers today. The Aven River runs through the town and the water quality is said to be good. The town is also at the interface of the tidal estuary and the freshwater river.
