Bonifacio Old Town is a labyrinth of narrow streets and alleys with medieval townhouses enclosed by the ancient walls of the citadel. There are stunning views from the Montee St-Roch steps across the cliffs. From here the impressive Grain de Sable limestone sea stack can be seen.
The Porte de Genes was the only way to enter the old town of Bonifacio until the Porte de France was built in 1854. The drawbridge was operated via a weights and pulley system installed in 1598 and the mechanism still operates today. Bonifacio also has an attractive and lively marina, flanked on one side by mountains and lined with bars, cafes and restaurants. Stay in Bonifacio and rent a Bonifacio Villa or Bonifacio Apartment for your vacation in Corsica.
