The Rhone-Alpes sovers a region from the Rhone Valley to the peaks of the Alps mountain range. The two parts of the region contrast each other with the beautiful Rhine valley with its rivers, trees and countryside reach towards the towering Alpes which are ideal for sports enthusiasts from those wishing to ski or snowboard, to others who want to mountain bike or simply walk or hike. This is an area where we have lovely Rhone Villas and Alps Cottages and chalets or apartments in one of the picturesque towns of the Rhone-Alpes.

The region stretches from Lake Geneva in the north and includes the famous resort town of Grenoble in the area of Dauphin, as well as the area known as Savoie in the east and the city of Lyons in the west. Savoie is more accessible than Dauphine and greener in the summer and more covered in snow in the winter. The Rhone valley itself is a major conduit for traffic from north to south and vice versa, as well as into the Alps and Switzerland and back. However, it is relatively little visited compared to the mountainous Alps to the east. The capital of the Rhone valley is Lyon which is home to much trade and very good cuisine. The centre is Renaissance style and now a World Heritage site.

Many people will know Chamonix which is famous in the skiing world and a great place to rent an Alpine lodge or apartments in the Alps. It has claims to be the World capital of skiing and is close to the most famous mountain of Mont Blanc. This used to be the mountaineers headquarters among the many rocky peaks and is now a vibrant and often overcrowded town invaded by tourists.
